UNESCO Regional Meeting for Western Europe

On February 15-16, the representatives from 31 countries gathered at the Geneva International Conference Center (CICG) to participate in the UNESCO Western European Regional Meeting on "The Role of Quality Assurance in Higher Education: Challenges, Achievements and Prospects".

The main topics of the reports were: identification of the main opportunities and challenges for the development of quality assurance for HE in the region; exchange of views on the role of HE and quality assurance in the context of sustainable development; strengthening a quality assurance system that would respond promptly to requirements and changes; development of a strategy for involving government structures, quality assurance bodies, universities and other stakeholders; exchange of best practices of quality assurance in the region and beyond; preparation of a consolidated regional report.

This meeting was the fifth in a row and was held in partnership with the Swiss Agency of Accreditation and Quality Assurance (AAQ) with the support of the Swiss National Commission for UNESCO. The parallel related event will cover Eastern Europe and Central Asia regions and will be organized on April 23-24, 2018 in Moscow.

UNESCO, in cooperation with regional and international partners, will organize the World Conference on Quality Assurance of Higher Education in Paris, France, in November 2018. In various parts of the world, a number of regional events are being held as preparatory to the global conference, the results and reports of which will form the basis of the final conference.
